YMCA Childcare Survey - Before & After School Care Elkhart Christian Church is working in partnership with the Lincoln Area YMCA to explore the possibility of bringing childcare to the Elkhart community. The purpose of this survey is to gather information from the community on how many students would utilize before and after school childcare at a licensed location in Elkhart. The Lincoln Area YMCA before and after school program is currently serving children in grades K-5. There is an annual registration fee for the childcare program, which will also grant your family a YMCA membership. Weekly fees will vary based on your childcare needs, with rates ranging from roughly $30/week for before school care only, to roughly $80/week for before and after school care for 5 days/week (per child). Program options include: before school care only, after school care only, both before & after school care, with 3 days/week or 5 days/week options. Please follow the web-link below to complete a short survey at your earliest convenience to aid us in the planning and preparation of possibly bringing this collaborative service to our community! The 8th graders just finished a unit on the Holocaust. They were able to pick a novel of their choice and represent what they understood by creating a passion project of their choice. The pictures represent what was physically brought in, but the students also created poems, song lyrics that were played on guitar, a Minecraft recreation of Auschwitz, a cake made to depict the inside of a death camp and more. The students really got their "creative juices" flowing.

Logan County Community Invited to Send Messages of Hope and Support to Local Veterans The newly formed Central Illinois Veterans Commission has partnered with 2X4's For Hope of Quincy to build homes in Lincoln to be given to local veterans. Thanks to generous local support, the first of these homes is scheduled to be completed within the next few months, with more of these tiny homes being built and gifted in the future. The backbone of the 2X4's For Hope organization revolves around a single piece of lumber, called a 2X4, which is used to build the framework of a tiny home. These 2X4's, prior to the homes being built are signed, and decorated with messages of love, support, wisdom, and success by the community to your veterans, so that once the home is completed, the veteran recipient will always be surrounded by the love, honor and respect of the community for a new beginning, a new day, and hope. The Logan County Community is invited to come to a 2X4 signing event, to be held at RP Lumber in Saturday, April 24th from 8-12 noon. Come and send your message of hope and support to the veterans who will be honored to receive the gift of a home. A groundbreaking for the first home is being planned for 1:30pm on Saturday, April 24th at the building location on 6th Street and College. On any given night in the United States, it is estimated that over 48,000 homeless veterans are searching for a place to sleep. The mission of the CIVC is to provide Central Illinois veterans with the tools and support systems to enable them to move forward to obtain permanent sustainable housing. Help send the message of hope!

Supporting your child’s education means more than just computer troubleshooting. In particular, parents and caregivers have faced challenges when it comes to fostering social emotional learning (SEL) while still supporting traditional academic learning. The LTC SPARK program has created a self-paced course for parents & caregivers. In this course, written by SEL educator and coach Abby Lyons, participants will learn how to develop learning spaces at home, support student engagement, and encourage self-regulation. Parents and caregivers will also walk away from this course with the skills needed to manage their own social emotional well-being – no matter what challenges remote learning throws at them. Sign up for “Parenting in a Pandemic” today and begin working toward completing this engaging new course at your own pace. To sign up, visit: https://ltcillinois.org/events/courses/?_course_audience=parents&utm_source=MagnetMail&utm_medium=email&utm_term=hfricke%40mtpulaski.k12.il.us&utm_content=November+2020_LTC+Newsletter&utm_campaign=November+2020+LTC+Newsletter

Good afternoon Parents and Guardians! We made it through our first in-person day here at MPGS and we were thrilled. There are still a few bumps in the road when it comes to dismissal, but we are going to work those kinks out. We apologize for the delay in getting students out of the building today. Here are a few things that will help us out: 1. Please communicate with your child each day on whether they should be getting lunch. We are taking lunch count every morning and we want to make sure we have an accurate count. 2. If you have any plastic grocery sacks that you would like to get off your hands we will take them from you. You can send them with your child if you wish or drop off at the office. The Hot Spot order is going in today! If you haven't registered, we need to know if you need a hot spot, if your student will attend remotely or in-person, if your student intends to purchase lunch/breakfast daily, and if your child needs transportation. You can email your answers to these questions to hfricke@mtpulaski.k12.il.us. You can also call the grade school office (since the HS doesn't have phones) at 217-792-7220. We need this information ASAP! Also, you will still need to visit the correct office to turn in registration paperwork.

Junior high students will need to bring supplies as needed each day. Teachers will communicate with students on what is needed on specific days. They will not be utilizing lockers as of now. There will not be anywhere to store their excess materials. They also will not need to have PE clothes to change into or a lock. Suggested everyday materials would be notebook, folders or tapper keeper, pencils, highlighter, colored pencils, calculator, and a charged IPad.

With so many uncertainties for all of us, we do not want providing food for our families to be another. Many of our circumstances are changing quickly (jobs, childcare, finances). So, lets continue to work together to get through this! The local churches and community have come together in this time to help one another. Many people have donated food and money to help meet needs. If you are in need of food, we want you to have it! TODAY, food will be available from 3-7 p.m. at the front of the Mt. Pulaski Christian Church Family Life Center (114 N. Lafayette). Just pull on up near the doors, pop your trunk, and I (Casey McCormick) will come out alone and figure out how we can meet your family’s needs. We’ll get you on your way as quickly as possible. If you need food, but this time doesn’t work, please contact me (Casey McCormick) at 217-331-8471 to make arrangements to get you what you need. It would be best to get this food into your hands as quickly as possible, as we don’t know what restrictions will be implemented next.
