Thank you to everyone who completed last week’s Remote Learning Survey in which 25% of our families participated and a majority of our teachers. Eighty-three percent of people indicated email was the manner in which they were notified of the remote learning days, while 53% identified phone/text message and 17% from the district website. Please note that these numbers reflect the multiple ways participants were notified.
Those surveyed indicated that 88% of students and families felt that they were well prepared for remote learning and 88% also felt remote learning was a success. Only 12% of participants noted dissatisfaction with remote learning; 4 stating their students do not learn as well through remote practices.
These are very positive numbers in our new effort to instruct students remotely. The school district wants to reassure families and students that remote learning will be imposed only when necessary; unsafe weather conditions, community health outbreaks or other safety concerns. It is the intention of Mt. Pulaski CUSD 23 to conduct in person instruction whenever possible.
Ninety-four percent of participants acknowledged having adequate internet access and 96% used a district provided device during instruction. While we want to strive to have these numbers at 100%, we are excited for the results. The district will continue to work with families that are having difficulty to help them find alternative methods to support their instruction.
Twenty-six of 77 comments communicated that remote learning was a success while six participants had concerns. Other comment highlights included recommendations about workloads for students, elective suggestions and technology. District administrators and the building leadership teams will look at the survey and comments when reflecting on practices and adjusting systems to provide an even better experience for remote learning in the future.
It is the hope of the district that with improving weather and declining COVID-19 positivity rates, the district will not need to use another remote learning day this year. If conditions change, we will be sure to work to improve our efforts and provide families with as much notice as possible
