MPHS Cheer Coach Needed

Mount Pulaski High School seeks a Grade 9-12 IHSA Cheerleading Coach for this season!

Required Qualifications

  • Required IHSA online training/Concussion/CPR/AED training

  • Excellent communication, organizational, and time management skills

  • Self motivation, creativity, and the ability to deliver constructive criticism

  • Possession of a thorough knowledge of the rules, regulations, strategies, and techniques of the sport; experience in cheerleading/dance, training skills, stunting techniques

  • Enthusiasm for working positively and professionally with students

  • Possession of the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school administration, parents, and students

  • Willingness to learn and follow District policies and procedures

  • Willingness to accept and accomplish all position responsibilities

Preferred Qualifications

  • Valid Professional Educators License, Valid Paraprofessionals License, Valid Substitute Teaching License, Retired Teacher, or Certificate from a Coaches Education Program

  • Possession of effective coaching techniques and skills

  • Previous cheer coach experience

Basic Responsibilities

The Cheerleading Coach is responsible for organizing and executing the cheer program at MPHS. This person is responsible for coaching student athletes in cheer techniques to prepare them for events. This individual is to motivate student athletes to develop an appreciation for the sport. Performance responsibilities specific to the position include:

  1. Works with cheerleaders during practices, events, and competitions.

  2. Holds organizational meetings for team prospects and encourages students to participate.

  3. Assesses skills and assigns team positions; chooses team members through a try-out process.

  4. Creates choreography and cheers; organizes practice sessions.

  5. Monitors/supervises each cheerleader, recommending safe techniques, and supervising warm-ups, events, and transport to/from away events.

  6. Coaches and instructs cheerleaders regarding the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport.

  7. Observes cheerleaders for the full duration of events and practices and determines needs for individual or team improvement.

  8. Maintains proper supervision of cheerleaders and appropriate communications with and among cheerleaders at all times.

  9. Enforces eligibility guidelines.

  10. Has an understanding of current rules and regulations for cheerleading and seeks needed training/information.

  11. Follows established procedures for uniforms and supplies.

  12. Work with the Activities Director to secure practice times/facilities usage.

  13. Responsibly work within the given budget and keep accurate records of monies used and received. Coordinate with the office bookkeeper.

  14. Other duties as deemed within the purview of this sponsorship.
